Access Control
This is one of the most critical areas of security strategies an organization or individual can deploy. But what is it and how is it different from the other security strategies?
Access Control is the selective restriction of access to a place or other resource. Access control is not only applied in physical access to a premise of the property but logical access (as in computer resources such as a PC or a network).
The act of accessing may mean consuming, entering, or using. Permission to access a resource is called authorization.
Physical Security
Strategies used in access control include:
1. Deploying human security such as a guard or a guard- one has to be screened by these human security barriers either by producing a ticket or stating their purpose of entry
2. Mechanical barriers such as using locks and keys, Turnstiles, Bollards, Road Barriers, etc
3. Electromechanical devices combine both electronically controlled devices and mechanical devices. These allow records of those who enter the property to have their records kept, unlike the mechanical barrier devices.
Modern trends in Access Control
A trend is emerging where most properties are having electromechanical devices installed to control entry and access to various areas of the property. This is an effort to have a complete surveillance approach since the system has the capability to store details of those who access or even attempt to access the property. Another reason is that it is possible to integrate electronic access control with other surveillance tools such as CCTV and intruder alarms.
Kenvision Techniks has the expertise needed to deploy complete access control systems in any type of property that a customer may desire. This includes design, the actual installation, and live monitoring and control of the systems deployed on customer premises.
